Little information is available about this small pub that once stood at the bottom of Gibbon Street. It was knocked down when the Charles Cross police station was built in the 1970's(?). I understand that the last landlady was called Sylvia.
Chris and Terry
Chris and Terry provided me with the first story about the Clarence Arms. I had struggled to figure out where the pub had once stood as it is no part of the Charles Cross police station. However, they confirmed that this pub did indeed exist and that it was a small pub whose last landlady was called Sylvia. She had previously run the Mechanics Arms in Stonehouse, but she had a violent incident there and moved onto the Clarence Arms. The Mechanic Arms unfortunately closed in 2010, despite being a popular pub going back as far as 1881.
